Gaming FOV & Resolution Calculator

Convert FOV between aspect ratios.

Convert horizontal FOV to vertical FOV (or the reverse) for your exact monitor aspect ratio, using the standard rectilinear projection math that most FPS games use. Also resolves any resolution into its aspect ratio.

Vertical FOV117.43°
Aspect: 16:91.7778:1

Rectilinear projection math. Games using different FOV axes, ADS scaling or ultrawide corrections may show different values.

How to convert FOV

  1. Choose horizontal-to-vertical or vertical-to-horizontal conversion.
  2. Enter the FOV value shown in your game settings.
  3. Enter your monitor resolution width and height.
  4. Copy the converted FOV and use it on the other display.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between horizontal and vertical FOV?

Horizontal FOV spans the width of your view, vertical FOV spans the height. Games that let you pick one derive the other from your aspect ratio.

Which projection does this calculator use?

Standard rectilinear projection: v = 2*atan(tan(h/2)/aspect). Most FPS games on PC use this. Fisheye or panoramic projections need different math.

Can I convert FOV between two different monitors?

Yes. Convert the game's FOV to the other axis on monitor A, then convert back using monitor B's aspect ratio to keep the same visible height or width.

Do all games measure FOV the same way?

No. Some games show horizontal FOV, others vertical, and some scale with ADS or ultrawide fixes. Always check which axis your game displays before converting.

What aspect ratio is my resolution?

The tool reduces your width and height to the simplest ratio, like 16:9 for 1920 by 1080, plus the exact decimal value.
